Baccarat x Steve Leung “Printemps Bleu” Zenith Chandelier
Baccarat and Steve Leung Present the Limited-Edition “Printemps Bleu” Zenith chandelier, where Crystal Meets Porcelain, commemorating 60 Years of Sino-French Relations
In tribute to the artistic heritage of France and China, Baccarat partners with renowned Hong Kong designer Steve Leung, who revisits the Maison’s emblematic Zenith chandelier in a creation encapsulating joy, light, and pleasure.
A convergence of craftsmanship, innovation and culture, the Printemps Bleu Zenith chandelier combines the ancestral skills of Chinese and French porcelain with Baccarat’s mastery of crystal creation in a union of two noble materials. Fusing French elegance and Chinese serenity, designer Steve Leung was inspired by a 19th-century Baccarat archive motif and Qinghua Ci, Chinese blue and white pottery.
Indeed, Chinese porcelain has nourished Baccarat’s creativity since the Maison’s earliest years, and most of the historical drawings used by Leung were originally designed for the 1878 World Fair. Absent from the first two Parisian World Fairs, the Chinese imperial authority decided to officially participate in the 1878 event, which spurred Baccarat to create these unique patterns to engrave vases and trays.
“Both our countries have a long-standing appreciation for art and literature: I believe this design collaboration is the perfect way to celebrate our mutual understanding and appreciation of each other’s heritage and creativity, especially on the 60th anniversary of Sino-French friendship. I am thrilled to embark on a design journey with the talented team at Baccarat during such a milestone historical moment.”
—— Steve Leung
Printemps Bleu is Steve Leung’s first chandelier. A world-renowned contemporary architect, interior and product designer with a career spanning 40 years, Steve Leung shares Baccarat’s commitment to exceptional savoir-faire. “Since 1764, Baccarat has been recognized for its exceptional quality and timeless designs. Today, Baccarat remains a pristine symbol of luxury and elegance. It is our honor to delve into its esteemed history of luxury legacy,” says Leung.
Printemps Bleu, which translates to “Blue Spring”, is an ode to the beauty of nature featuring pieces adorned with subtle motifs of swallows, flowers and butterflies in a cobalt hue. The collection celebrates the complementarity of opposites reflected by the Chinese notion of Yin- yang, where crystal-porcelain, blue-white, France-China, and Western-Eastern appear distinct yet find harmonious equilibrium.
The Printemps Bleu Zenith chandelier features 9 swallows, symbolizing eternity and luck in Chinese culture. Admired throughout the world, the Zenith chandelier has illuminated palaces and stunning homes since it was first created in the mid-19th century. Reflecting the unique craftsmanship of the Manufacture’s artisans, this icon of light embodies timeless beauty with its majestic form and rich composition: twisted arms, “fleurs de lys” or lilies, arrowed prisms, small bells and octagon chains. Continually reinterpreted by the greatest international designers, today Zenith is coronated with its first porcelain elements.
Printemps Bleu will first be presented in Asia: Chinese mainland, Hong Kong SAR and Singapore, exclusively in July 2024, then worldwide in 2025. Only 60 Printemps Bleu Zénith Chandeliers will be created, in honor of 60 years of trade relations between the two countries.
The chandelier is presented in a limited and numbered edition of 60 pieces. The number of each is engraved in gold on one of the blue prisms. A certificate of origin is provided with each chandelier.
